Alongside these areas, the firm undertakes employment matters, dispute resolution and selected litigation.
The firm is led by Senior Partner Nikeshala Kaluthanthri and Managing Partner Kosala Poornima. Nikeshala leads the family law practice, with a particular focus on divorce, child custody, testimentory and related family disputes. Kosala leads the corporate and investment practice, covering company formation and governance, commercial arrangements, foreign investment structures, property due diligence and acquisitions, and the regulatory issues surrounding them.
The firm’s approach to disputes is founded on the belief that legal practice should resolve conflict rather than intensify it. Where circumstances permit, negotiation, mediation and other appropriate forms of alternative dispute resolution are considered before litigation. Court proceedings remain necessary where legal rights must be protected, urgent or binding relief is required, or obligations must be enforced. The objective is neither settlement at any price nor litigation for its own sake, but a course proportionate to the legal and practical realities of the matter.

Cross-border matters frequently require documents to be signed or certified outside Sri Lanka, powers of attorney, identity and compliance documentation, inward remittances, and coordination with institutions or regulatory authorities in Sri Lanka. The process and any requirement for personal attendance will depend on the particular matter.
Where an issue also requires advice on the law of another country, separate advice from a suitably qualified lawyer in that jurisdiction may be necessary.

Depending on the matter, some preliminary steps may be handled remotely, while particular documents or proceedings may require execution or attendance in Sri Lanka.
The firm’s work includes property due diligence, title investigation, conveyancing, agreements, company and share acquisitions, foreign ownership and investment structures, and related corporate and regulatory matters. The appropriate structure or process depends on the property, parties and proposed transaction.

K & K Legal supports the early consideration of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including negotiation, mediation and, where applicable, arbitration. ADR may allow the parties to retain greater control over the process, address matters more privately, reduce unnecessary time and expense, and preserve continuing family or commercial relationships.
ADR is not appropriate for every dispute. Court or tribunal proceedings may still be necessary where urgent relief, formal enforcement or a binding judicial determination is required, or where another party is unwilling to participate constructively. The appropriate course depends on the circumstances of each matter.
Once sufficient preliminary information is available, the proposed scope of work, basis of fees and any required initial payment are confirmed before substantive work begins. If the matter later requires work outside the agreed scope, this is addressed separately.
